Woodtick Races Pt.4: ... And What's Next?
In 2002 I and my whole family went the 23rd Annual Woodtick Races. When I entered as a contestant, I was 134th entrant out of over 150! Lost a first round race! The races were held outside again this year. The two tracks helped the first rounds of heat races and eliminations rounds beneficial when there are more than 150 entrants. It was good to see the old original track still being used and to see the 10 commandments of Woodtick Races still being displayed.
Guess what? I was a guest referee for the 26th Annual in 2005. My wife and I stopped at the Woodtick Inn over the Memorial weekend and saw flyers for the upcoming races. I introduced myself as one of the founding fathers, pointing out my initials in the corner on the original track. The owners showed me the new third track being added this year and invited me to come back as a referee.
The third track helped greatly in the first round of over 249 entrants – 249! I noticed that they had sponsorship in a way, Miller brewing had produced the ‘Miller LITE’ leader boards to keep track of the heat races.
Sara and I went back to the 40th Annual races in June of 2019. We, Anrias Games, had a vender’s tent at the festivities – I mean the races are a festival, where we sold our games.
The leader boards were now advertised by ‘Bud Light’. The leader boards helped with the over 340 entrants (340?). When I registered, I was #75 and lost in the first round again to #76.
2020: Due to COVID – they held a ‘mini’ version with only 8 entrants at the 41st annual Woodtick Races to keep the tradition going and put the results out on their Facebook Page.
. . and it continues: The Woodtick Inn is looking forward to a big return for the 42nd Annual in 2021
